Dave Olson (@daveohoots) is the Community Marketing Director for social media dashboard maker HootSuite. Working in the Internet space since 1996, Dave was a partner is two successful ISPs plus worked with start-ups including ecommerce software, open source web development, and a green business directory. He frequently presents at events including SXSW and Northern Voice, and appears in the media discussing technology, art, hockey and culture.
A graduate of Evergreen College in Inter-disciplinary Studies, Dave’s work is published in magazines and journals on topics ranging from Japanese agri-history to Telco de-regulation. A chronic documentarian from his earliest days, Dave creates visual art, writes essays and produces podcasts and led a ground-breaking project for social coverage of the Vancouver Olympics. After living and traveling worldwide, Dave now enjoys exploring his local North Vancouver mountains and forests.
BookRiff Media Inc. Video interview
Rochelle Grayson is the CEO of BookRiff, an innovative publishing technology company that allows consumers to gather slices of content from multiple sources and remix and resell that content, while ensuring that all content owners and contributors get paid. Prior to BookRiff, Rochelle was President of Work at Play, a digital media agency focused on community building and digital content monetization for large brands and entertainment companies such as MTV, Mattel, and Warner Brothers.
Leveraging 20 years of business, technology, entertainment and education experience, Rochelle has led and launched several innovative digital media initiatives, working with a combination of both highly analytical and creative individuals. She is equally comfortable discussing digital media business models, social media trends, online community building, and web 2.0 technologies. Rochelle sits on the boards of the Canadian Internet Registration Authority, Canadian Women in Communications, Computers for Schools, was a Board Member and Acting President of New Media BC, and is the Industry Chair for the University of British Columbia’s Social Media Program.

Prior to founding Tagga, Amielle held a range of executive marketing and corporate development roles across the software, financial services and mining market sectors. Elijah van der Giessen is the Creative Services Lead Coordinator for the David Suzuki Foundation in Vancouver. Eli creates web projects at the Foundation and leads online outreach activities. With a background in festival production and volunteer management, he uses his on-the-ground experience with community-building to build online constituencies. Eli’s recent accomplishments include nearly doubling the Foundation’s supporter base through social networking sites and successfully moving DSF supporters up the engagement ladder into more active participants.
Eli is actively involved in leveraging the power of new media to affect social change. He is the organizer of Net Tuesday, a meetup group where social media and web Innovators come together with Social Change Makers and Nonprofits campaigners to mix, exchange, discuss ideas and build new relationships. Eli was also the organizer of the 2010 Vancouver’s Change Camp conference, an unconference bringing together nonprofits, activists and social entrepreneurs.

Kemp Edmonds runs the coolest and newest department at HootSuite Media, HootSuite University. HootSuite University program is designed for professionals seeking to increase their HootSuite skills and learn other social media tools and tactics.
Experienced educator, strategist and speaker, Kemp’s professional experience includes sales, marketing, training, delivering post-secondary education, product and business development.
Besides running Hootsuite University, Kemp is also a legal internet consultant working on active cases in Canada regarding labour and legal disputes in technologies, a social media educator at British Columbia Institute of Technology and an independent internet marketing consultant.
Kemp also serves as the Communications Chair at the Vancouver Board of Trade and the vice president of Social Media Club Vancouver.

Crystal joined Yelp in March 2009, as Yelp Vancouver’s first Community Manager where she lead the charge for all community and marketing events throughout the city. This one-woman show helped educate business owners on how to jump into online conversations, brought the online community together offline by hosting remarkable local events, and was the author of the Weekly Yelp newsletter which highlighted the most interesting happenings around town. In her current role, she oversees all marketing efforts for Canada, which includes a rapidly growing team of Yelp community managers in Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and more coming soon.

Jonathan Chow is the CEO of Sidetrek Productions and the creator/producer of the Social Media +(Mobile) Marketing Unplugged conferences and other seminars, workshops, conferences and festivals, both in the film industry and digital marketing, in Canada and internationally for the past 5 years.
Jonathan holds a degree in Urban and Regional Studies from the University of Lethbridge. Shortly after graduation, he was recruited as the head of administration for an American insurance company in BC. Later he opened his own bookstores and spent a decade operating several successful bookstores in Vancouver until he sold them in 2008.
Five years ago, while still running the bookstores, he started on a career change to promote film seminars for Dov Simens, founder of Hollywood Film Institute, film instructor to Quentin Tarantino, Will Smith, Guy Ritchie, Christopher Nolan and others.
As of today, Jonathan has brought the Dov Simens’ 2-Day Film School to Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines and Malaysia; over 1500 filmmakers in Asia have benefited from the seminar.
He has also promoted and produced film workshops for other Hollywood film instructors and filmmakers, such as Syd Field, the renowned screenwriting guru of Hollywood; Michael Watkins, producer and director of TV show Las Vegas; and Jeff Barnes, CEO of CafeFX and producer of Pan’s Labyrinth. In 2009, Jonathan was invited to co-organize the Asia Film Week film festival in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
He produced and promoted Social Media Marketing Unplugged in Vancouver and Calgary in 2011. Both were sold out events with over 350 and 270 participants respectively. Attendees came from across Canada and the US and as far as the UK to attend the conference.
